I clicked on a mcafee icon on my desktop when I realized my mcafee security trial ended and after it ran a test it offered a security package for $39.95. After I bought it I was offered technical support over the phone to help set it up. I'm in the middle of a startup and have no time to sleep let alone figure something out that they suggest needs a technician to do it so I called. After stupidly letting the guy have access to my computer I got suspicious when he knew right where to find a corrupted file and just what it meant and took me to google search to prove it. While he was telling me it was imperative I pay $300 to him to get my computer fixed I looked this file up on google on my iPad but added hoax and holy moly! What a scam! I told him what I thought of him and hung up and turned off my computer and haven't been able to make it work since. Somehow they put a recurring charge of $19 on my account as well but since I used PayPal I got the $39.95 plus that recurring charge reversed thank goodness. I feel so dumb and I'm not real sure how to get my laptop working again. Not good timing for sure.
