On April 24, 2011, I paid $4.95 for a 14 day trial of Valu-Pass. On May 14, 2011, I paid $99.00 for a year's membership in Valu-Pass. I rarely, if ever, used the priveleges associated with the membership, so I cancelled my membership. I cannot say exactly when I cancelled, but I was told that I would not be receiving a refund, as I had paid for an entire year. So I said that was fine, but that I did not want to renew my membership when the year was up. The person I talked to, and I am sorry to say that I did not write down that person's name, said he/she would make a note in my account to that effect. I thanked him, and ended the conversation, and thought no more about it; and I did not use the membership again.
Now this year, 2012, on, or around 3/1, I received a "membership renewal"
invoice stating that my "account" was now "suspended", awaiting payment of
my renewal fee of $99.00. The letter stated that "lack of payment does not release you from your obligation pursuant to your Membership contract. Please consult your Membership Terms and Conditions as posted on www.valu-pass.com for details".
Well, I immediately called the 800 number provided, and explained that I had cancelled my membership 4 or 5 months earlier, but they said they had no record of that. I then told them I wanted to CANCEL the membership, and I was told that was not possible now, and that I had to pay the $99.00.
I did NOT pay the $99.00. AND, last week I got another letter saying the same thing the first letter said, except that this letter informed me that they had tried to "charge" my credit card for the $99.00, but were unsuccessful due to the fact that the card they tried to make a credit to is no longer valid.
Now, today, April 23, 2012, I accessed my checking/debit card ( a different account from the one Valu-Pass tried credit) account, and discovered a charge for $99.00 from Val-Pass in the "pending" area. How in the world did they get
access to this account?
What can I do?
