    • High Profile Security: Corporate Security Craigslist Job Ad Complaint / User Submitted Image #117161

I responded to a job ad on Craigslist NYC for an "entry level corporate security guard" position. It stated a $22 per hour salary plus benefits, without prior experience or a degree. It seemed to good to be true, so I called unnamed company to find out more. I was greeted by a friendly female receptionist who referred to herself as "Ms. Watson" working for "High Profile security." She explained that I needed a security training course which they provided, that would cost $80. She instructed me to come to the interview at her office around 47th street in Manhattan bringing the money as well as a copy of my SSN card for background checking purposes. After ending the conversation, I did some online research on the ad and found that numerous identical ads had been placed on Craigslist, and the original ad which I had responded to had been deleted only moments after I called to schedule an interview. The ads were basically verbatim, but using different phone numbers with 347 and 917 area codes which I suspect were created using a service like Google Voice. The subject heading for these posts are usually written in all caps. I began reading complaints about how some people would show up to the interview and after paying $80 they were expected to pay additional hidden fees for the "training course" leading to a phony certificate signed by the receptionist. The location of the office is also constantly changing, but seems to be mainly in the NYC area. Luckily, I did not end up paying these con artists, but I feel that job-seekers should be aware of these fraudulent job-ads on the internet.
