Received 2 phone calls [one for Don Howell and one for Nancy]from 'unknown caller' offering a $6,000.00 grant for paying our taxes on time. We were instructed to open an account at the Western Union Office in the amount of $200.00 in the name of Nancy Howell. Nancy played along with the offer from the first caller and obtained his phone number [202-657-6167] and an info code [Sponsor Six Thousand Dollars]. After depositing the $200.00 dollars we would receive a confirmation letter and a call from a second person. The first call was received about 10:00am.
Approximately 45 minutes later we received a second call. Both callers had a heavy accent (Mexican?) he was very difficult to understand but sounded much like the first caller. Open an account at Western Union with Nancy as sender and receiver. We could never understand how he was to receive the money. What should we do or say if we receive another call or letter?
