Found a BEAUTIFUL studio apartment on Craigslist for $650 monthly - w/electric, water, and trash included - along with a covered garage, washer/dryer - and the entire place is modern - exposed brick, shiny hardwood floors.
"Caitlin" and I have been emailing back and forth regarding seeing the apartment. I was required to fill out a pre-qual form via a web site link in her email. I regret filling it out - TWICE, and filling in my credit card info and SSN. The first time it failed, did it again - failed again. I emailed her saying something was wrong w/the site - "she" said that she did receive the info and that i could come see the place this weekend. Since it didn't go through on my end, it seemed a bit odd that somehow it managed to go through on "her" end....
I also have never recognized her email address "@frbomail.com" so i did some research - looked up her IP address. She claimed to be from NJ, well the IP is actually from Ohio. Found another person on this site having the same case as me from an @frbomail.com account - yet her "Caitlin" said she was from CA but her IP was also from Ohio.
She posted pics of the studio apt and low and behold - it's the same exact place i was expecting to see this weekend. BEWARE - "she" writes very well and comes across as very convincing - even goes as far as mentioning that she only wants serious inquiries bc she has to get a babysitter while she shows the apartment. I guess the whole female single mom thing draws in suckers - including me.
I feel absolutely sick to my stomach over all of this. I plan on contacting the authorities and switching bank accounts asap. Hope everyone catches this that needs to.

Exact same story, she provided no address or contact number either, said she was busy etc and will get back to me. I canceled my card last night after reading a bit more about this scam and the fact that I had to have my credit score checked etc before actually seeing the place/meeting the landlord - first lesson on renting from Craiglist thats for sure, renter beware!
My 'landlords' name is Lisa Tucker. Def. avoid and dont provide any personal credit card/personal info prior to meeting anyone in person/seeing a flat

- Sorry that this happened to you too, Devin. Were the photos "she" posted the same that i have above? I'm going to my bank today to close out my account. I am so frustrated and upset. Oh, also - this person also took the listing down right after she replied to me, so it was only up a day or two as well. "She" said she was getting so many replies on the listing that she wouldn't have time to answer all the email with her busy work schedule. Unbelievable.

it is the exact same posting/photos & email!! just replace Montclair with Fells Point and its the exact same thing!
Really sucks because i was stoked to find such a killer place for so cheap, but in the email responses and just looking at the place comparing the cost etc it was, as they say, too good to be true... i had this feeling deep down that something wasnt right and sure enough it was true
sorry you have to cancel your account thats a drag, it was easier canceling my credit card they send y ou a new one the next day and all is taken care of! well, looks like we will be wiser shoppers from now on thats for sure! -

Argh! I agree, this totally sucks because i was so impressed with the space - exposed brick, hardwood floors, washer and dryer, all for so cheap! Exactly, it was definitely too good to be true. I was literally laying in bed last night awake till 4 am thinking about this, i'm like - something is not right. Thats when i went to my computer and looked up the IP address and did some more researching. Ugh.
Well Devin, good luck in your apartment hunt - hope we both fine something equally as awesome as what we saw, only legit. Yes, we have surely learned our lesson! -
