Parkway Apartment and Town homes in West Lafayette Indiana

My name is Odessa Onar and I live in West Lafayette Indiana: 2501 Soldier Home Road Apt 3E. West Lafayette Indiana 47906. (Parkway Apartment and Town Homes) Since last summer I have been complaining about the central air not working in my apartment. This summer is extremely hot since the temperature has been in excess of 90+ degrees for the last few weeks. I have two small children ages 2 and 4 years of age. The youngest has breathing issues. My thermostat in the apartment reads 90 degrees and it is set as low as 50 degrees (just trying to get it cool). Numerous (phone & face-to-face) complaints have been made to management which have fallen on death's ears. They sent a maintenance man who states nothing is wrong. Management told my children's father that it is hot because heat rises and we are on the 3rd floor. While this is true (heat does rise), it is also ridiculous when right across the hall, the neighbor's air is cold. My children are living in a dangerous condition. I cannot even purchase an air-conditioning unit for the window, because they are slider windows, not double-hungs. I have called the police to no avail. Management stated to the police that it was checked and it is fine. All it takes is for someone to come in the apartment and check to see that management is not being truthful!!!!!!!! The heat is sweltering and we are in fear of dehydration or worse. My babies and I are in danger of heat related illnesses. We also don't have family here in Indiana where we can go to get out the heat and I can't leave Indiana because I work here. Even when my children's father has complained several time, they threaten him that he is not on the lease so he has no say so, but he actually pays the rent with his SSI check. It takes both of us together to raise our children and pay all our bills, we cannot afford a lawyer. Please help us.
