I saw ads for the new dating site, Confirio.com. I went to the site just to look at it. Before I could look at any profiles, I was pressured into joining. The least expensive option was for 2 months. I joined for $13.94 on my credit card. Later I found another charge on my credit card from the same date of $0.41, labeled "foreign transaction fee". I did not authorize this charge.
I placed my profile. The first day I got 20 "responses", and I continued to get almost that number every day. I believe all these responses are phony. Most of them have the same grammatical errors, as though they were written by the same foreigner. I often see "more better", or "new to this online dating and stuffs", or "hope u fine". Almost all of the "responders" ask me to "chat" with them on their yahoo account (and it's always yahoo). They seem to be based in another country--thus the "foreign transaction fee", and the English accents on the phone recording when I called them. (Couldn't find a phone number on their site--got it from my credit card statement.) Also the odd sayings--many said they wanted "to read me". One asked me to "add me up" at yahoo. Many addressed me as "Hello Dear" or "Cutie".
There were many discrepancies between the photo and the written descriptions, or between the profiles and the headers. For example, almost all the "guys" were from "New York, New York" in the heading. However, in the body of the profile, sometimes the guy said he was from Texas or Oklahoma.
The sidebar frequently described a "guy" as "7'11"" and "blonde" when the photo showed a man with dark hair and of normal height. Often the sidebar described the "guy" as being "298 lb.", when the man in the photo appeared to be average weight. The sidebar also described some men as Black or Hispanic, when the man in the photo was clearly
Caucasian.
I asked a number of "men" to call me, giving them my phone number, since it seemed fairly clear that these "men" were not real. One wrote back, saying he was a soldier in Afghanistan, and he could not call (would he have time to be on the online dating sites?). Another wrote back and said that he, too, is out of the country, and he could not call. A third sent me a very short text message. Nobody called.
These people are wasting our time and our money with their phony profiles. I would like my money and that of everyone who used the site to be refunded; I would like to be reimbursed for all the time I spent on the site and in taking notes and submitting this report. I would like the Confirio site to be shut down and those involved be barred from starting any other website. I would like this to be pursued legally and those involved in running the site to be charged.
