My bank account in Washington has just been levied in its entirety for taxes which the FTB claims is owed from 1991 (when we were stationed in California, and not even residents of the state). The Franchise Board rep I spoke with is unable to explain how or why the money is owed after 21 years, putting it down to "an audit in the year 2000" for which they claim to have sent a letter in 1994. I'm told vaguely that the statute keeps evolving, and that it now runs not from the date taxes were presumably owed, but from their audit date of 2000. According to the FTB, any dispute would have been due within 30 days of their mythical letter in 1994. How are they able to operate like this?

Hello John
I have the same problem. My tax debts with FTB were paid back in 2005. There was a judgment or a levy filed with the local court back then which was subsequently reported to the credit bureaus. It has been since removed, no more debt. So why am I getting a letter? -
