Ordered a dining room table and made downpayment of USD 430.00 through PayPal, assuming my money would be protected, and assuming this was a safe way to deal with an Internet Company that was unknown to me.
Boy was I wrong.
PayPal a.) doesn't cover claims that are in regards to a down (or partial) payment, and b.) they don't cover claims that are filed 45 days after the payment. Well, the lead time for this article was given to me as way longer due to "overseas production". Smart scam to circumvent PayPal's protection they advertise to their customers. Maybe a suggestion to report PayPal as scammers too, as they basically encourage scammers to use these tactics under the label "PayPal protected purchase"... But yes, I should have read the fine print in PayPal's terms & Conditions, so the blame is on me.
The website teak-collection.com is now down, emails are bouncing back, the Scam Artist behind it (calling himself "Chris Cameron") doesn't reply to emails sent to a gmail address that he or she provided in addition to the official looking email address on the teak-collection.com domain. STAY AWAY PEOPLE!
Update: 10/10/2012
I misrepresented the name of the individual: He was (posing as) Patrick Cameron, not Chris.
My apologies.
