    • Edwin Pelaez Complaint / User Submitted Image #171462

I was approached by Mr. Edwin via text message after he read my post on Craigslist advertising my landscaping company having a few slots available for work. He asked me if I would like to make some extra money ($1,200 weekly). Intrigued, I asked for some details. The long and short of it is that he would send me names, addresses and amounts and I would enter that into a check writing program, print off and mail out the checks. After purchasing the checks and envelopes ($40), he sent me the payee list and wanted me to write 29 checks (each around $2,400), use the same check number on each, and mail them out with the promise of paying me via Western Union, each Monday. The checks were on the behalf of Cornell University Depository Account, and through Tompkins Trust Company. I called Cornell University's payroll department, was put in touch with the Cornell University Police Department and they confirmed it was all a scam.
