Visited amazon.com and got this popup inviting me try out the e cigarette starter kit for $5.95. I thought it was a really good price to try something new so I placed an order and received the order confirmation email.
While reading that email, I became alarmed of the obligations I was put under. By ordering the product, I was automatically enrolled in the 'refill' membership, meaning I would be buying the product every month and be charged automatically, whether I want the product or not. Suddenly, this good deal doesn't sound so good anymore.
Immediately, I called the customer service, intended to cancel the order. The person from E Cigs(Jason) was giving me a run around saying that it is O.K.to try the product and return it if I'm not satisfy with it. However, the obligation from the email also states, "If you cancel your membership before the end of the 15-day trial period, you will be charged for the starter kit's full value." I raised my concern to Jason about this, and he assured me that I won't be charged, even if I cancelled. I then asked Jason to email me what he just said, in writing, which he said he would do for me. Then we got off the phone.
Waiting for Jason's email for about 30 minutes, and no email from Jason. This confirmed my suspicion of this company's business practice.
Once more, I placed another call to customer service, this time I was determined to cancel the order regardless of what the customer service would say. William from E Cigs gave me a run around, same as Jason's, telling me to try it first, before cancelling, "Everything would be ok," William said. I stood my ground and told William, if he is not cancelling my order now, I would be calling my credit card company right away to put the charge back on any charge from E Cigs.
After a few more persuasions from William to ask me not to cancel my order, he agreed to do so and sent me the cancellation email while we were on the phone.
I don't like the ways this company conducting its business.
1. If I like a product, I will be a repeating customer. Don't automatically make me into one.
2. If you stated that your product is a trial, then don't charge me for full price when I want to cancel.
