Ordered 2 Birth Certificates for my son from the State of Washington. Was charged 70.00 dollars for the 2 certificates and agency fees and shipping. When I got my billing statement, I was charged 105.00, plus a foreign transaction fee of 1.06. When I checked with VitalChek they are a third party contracted agency for the State of Washington to do all the Vital Statics records. They have their own agency fee charge, which is not calculated in with the receipt from the State. Until you get your bank statement or ay other method of payment you do not know what your EXTRA charge will be. I know this is not a lot of money, but the fact it's a scam and now, VitalChek has a persons personal information along with Express Legal Nelson in Canada does as well. Talk about Identify Theft. I highly recommend anyone giving birth, married, or divorced to ask for additional copies at the time, they are much cheaper than ordering them years later.
