International boundaries

Our Company paid for one years service by OPM who promised us first page of Google to advertise our business. This never happened and I received another invoice for a further years service. I have refused to pay as I cancelled our business with them in January 13.They say they are taking legal action against us and that the amount owing is subject to interest.They say they have recordings of my agreement to their terms and conditions, however no hard copies of any contract have ever been sent either by post or e mail. I contacted the Citizens Advice and they said this was probably a scam, however I am obviously worried that they are going to take us to court as this could lead to huge costs. I intend to take legal advice.
Can anyone else advise what I should do about these people, who are impossible to talk to as they are very aggressive.

  • Dear Dawn. I wouldn't worry. I doubt that they would dare take you to court. They are just trying to bully you into paying, and hope that you would rather pay than have the worry of a court case. They are doing the same to us. We paid for a 3 month advertising campaign, which didn't give very much in the way of results, so we didn't renew. Now they say be had a "rolling contract" that means we have to pay for another 3 months. We refused, of course, and now they are threatening us with court action. We are not worried; their claim that the terms and conditions commit us to the rolling contract is absurd. If ever they do dare to bring it to court, we'll defend our position and claim for any costs.

  • Hi Peter, I am in the same position. I refused paying for another invoice. What's more I am not even sure if they ever run any campaign for me. Anything happened since?
    I will be grateful for information what was OPM next step?
    Did they take you to court?

  • Dear Nadja, All they will do is threaten. They won't follow up with legal action. In the end I refused to deal with them by email, and told them that if I have to defend our case in court I would counter-sue for costs, and to send any legal documents by registered post if they intended to pursue the matter. They did stop sending emails, but just sent their "legal letter" (identical to the email) by normal post. That went straight into the bin. I haven't heard from them for a few weeks, so hopefully that is the end it But you never know. There may be a few more letters heading for the bin, but I'm sure they know they would be hung out to dry if they ever went to court. I haven't heard anybody ever say that that OPM ever carried out their threat of court action. So they just keep hoping their bullying will pressure people into paying. Don't pay!
