I received a letter from Northam Career Assurance, with a check for $1346.50, and instructions to deposit the check, do two jobs for them (wire money and buy products), and I would get to keep $300 and the products I bought.
Being an English teacher, I was suspicious of all the grammar mistakes in the letter. However, when I called the number, that is when I was even more suspicious. It was a number n Windsor, Canada, answered by a male with a strong African accent. I could barely hear him, or understand him for that matter and it did not sound like a legitimate business.
After googling the company name, I saw how other people were deceived into putting the check into their account. They were told by their bank that the check had cleared, so they did the jobs assigned to them, only to be told by the bank later that the check had bounced and they lost all of their money.
Luckily I did all this before depositing the account. Hopefully people will read my post and will not fall for this scam.
Frances
