Received a letter (with no return address) from the National Lottery. Inside was a check for $3750.00. The letter stated that I was being awarded a prize of $138,750.00 because I had won a sweepstakes prize from the World International Consumers Sweepstake held in the United Kingdom on the 13th of May, 2013. Evidently, according to them, I had used my credit or debit card at a North American department store. The letter adviced me to deposit the check they had enclosed in my bank and use it to pay the taxes on all this money I had won. Their story was that there are fees involved when winning this money of around $1750 and $930. After paying the fees they wanted me to call a number listed and then work out arrangements to get the rest of my winnings! This clearly didn't smell right to me. Went on line and saw that our local newspaper had printed a story letting the public know that many people in my area had received the same letter.
