For the past couple of months, the hot water faucet in my kitchen sink and been dripping. I thought it might need a new washer, at the most, replace the whole faucet. I was prepared to pay up to $200.00 for the service. I called the Pink Plumber, scheduled an appointment for an estimate and for the work to be done,(repair a dripping faucet). I was told that there would be a $45 "Trip Fee" if I decided not to have the work done. The Plumber arrived, looked under my sink with a flashlight, looked at my hot water heater with a flashlight and then retired to his truck. He came back and presented me with an estimate of $1042.00, including a $600 part called a pressure relief valve. I declined the estimate, wrote the check for $45 and he was on his way, in less than 30 minutes. Yesterday, my sister's neighbor came over, went to Home Depot, bought a new faucet unit and replaced it in less than 30 minutes. Voila! No more dripping faucet and at a cost of $41 for the part. I believe that the Pink Plumber could have done the same thing, but instead choose to scam me out of the $45 "Trip Fee".
