Linda Barrett Smith, Florida, agreed to babysit my son one day when I was in a pinch. She claimed to have been a foster mother to many kids so I thought she would be a good neighbor to trust with my child for a few hours. When I returned for my child, age 3, he had a bruised face, near his eye, was fearful and tearful. His clothes were filthy and no explanation was offered other than, "boys will be boys." When we got in the car my son cried and complained of pain in his abdomen area. He was bruised and scratched all up under his shirt. I took him to the ER where MRI showed 2 broken ribs. For a total of $120,000. When questioned, Linda Barrett Smith claimed it was due to rough housing between her grandson, K, age 2 or 3, and my son. I don't believe her. I feel the injuries were too extensive to have been done by another child. But I can't prove it, so at the very least I can try to get her to pay his medical expenses. I will never leave my child with an unlicensed "nanny" again.
