I was at home alone. These two guys came to my home, claiming to be students at the U of M and started talking about a contest they were doing. They were trying to win a trip to Italy and they were so close to winning, they only needed a few more points. They showed me a bunch of credentials and were really convincing and seemed pretty honest. I thought they only wanted a signature and stood outside listening to them talk for twenty minutes, they never said a word about me giving them any money. They then told me how I could help them earn points was by giving money for a book and magazine subscription for some children at the the local Children's Hospital who had cancer. After I told them that I'm only sixteen years old, they told me that I my parents would get a tax deductable and that I could also cancel my order and get all my money back. I agreed, thinking that it would only be five dollars or less to help them out. They then told me that it was 60 dollars and said that since I already agreed to do it, I had to otherwise it would completely mess up the check or receipt that he had been writing. I told them I had no money and that they had to leave. They continued to talk about the trip and after seeing my bank card told me that going to an atm would only earn them extra points. I said no and they told me that if I cancelled the order the next day then I would get all my money back. The guy went through the process with me, showing me how to do it so I agreed to do it. While I was at the ATM he then convinced naive little me that I should give him a 120 dollars instead. Stupidly, thinking I was helping out these guys and brightening some sick children's day, I did. After they left I cancelled my order like they said and today I got the letters saying they received my cancellation request but that the needed my cancelled check. However I gave them cash. i thought I could call and explain my situation but there was no email, phone number, no nothing. I googled Explorer Communications tonight to try and find out how to contact them and found this website. I know now that my money is long gone. I'm a 16 year old girl, still in high school, with no job and I needed that money to pay for my phone bill, my gas money, and my car insurance. I know that I'm not getting it back and I feel used, upset, stupid, and pathetic. Don't ever trust anyone who comes to your door. I've learned my lesson and will never be taking part in anything like this for the rest of my life and won't be opening the door anymore when I'm at home alone unless it's someone that I know. If someone like these two guys come to your door, turn them away before they can even finish their sentence.
