I was planning a trip to nyc for the halloween event and was looking for sublet apartments in new york city. I came across an add in craigslist for 45& a day which is a very good price. So i contacted the number that they provided and i spoke to someone named tom jones and he told me to send half of the rent for the 6 days and a 200.00 dollars deposit through western union. I was so naive and i thought i got a good deal so i sent the money , he even emailed me many times to send it soon or else i will loose my reservation. The last minute he even informed me that i can use a credit card when sending from western usnion which i did in the amount of 326 dollars plus 35$ fee to a total of 365 US$.
After a day he sent me an "invoice" stating my reservation so i was kind of confident that i got a very nice aprtment for a cheaper price. Then after 3 days he emailed me asking how am i doing and that the "landlord "wants me topay the remaining amount.I then became suspicious and told him thru email that the agreement was to pay the remaining balance once i get there. I asked him if is it really real or a fake ad. He replied by email stating i will find out when i get there and that it is not there intentions to take peoples money. He then told me i can give the ning amount when i get there.
I was worrried about it so i asked some friends to be my back up if ever the ad was a fake one.
When i got to the address they sent me, i went to the reception and ask him that i have a reservation with the "invoice and reservation". The receptionist doesnt have any idea of what i was talking about and that the reservation never existed. I tried to call them but no one picked up the phone.
I was so furious and emabarrased and just left.
I did tried to contact them again but no one answered.
