inmatedirect.com charged $6.99 to set up an account with what they claimed was a local number that could be called from Marshall County Jail in Kansas thereby saving me long distance charges. I signed up for 100 minutes for $6.99 but my son was able to call using the number they gave me but it ended up being a 14.99 call. When I notified inmate direct, they claimed since the area code was the same as my area code it would still be a long distance call. They cancelled my order but refused to refund the set up fee. I was not informed by their customer service representative at the time of my account set up that this would not work for the area code I had given them.
