I am traveling with a broken leg. I went from Lacey, WA to Vancouver, BC. I contacted Amtrak, through their disability site, to advise them of my situation and request assistance. Once at the Lacey station, all staffed by volunteers, I was on my own. When the train arrived, and I went to board, I told the conducted I would need to use the lift. He informed me that there was no life available on this train (which was a lie, as several people in wheelchairs were already on board) and I needed to board the train myself. I received no assistance as I tossed my crutches onto the train, and crawled up the steps and on to the train on my hands and knees. Once on the train, I told a different conducted that I would need help getting off of the train. He told me to 'remind him later'. I never saw him again. At the end of the trip, I was the last person left on the car and no staff was anywhere in site. A passenger helped my off of the train, found a wheelchair, and pushed me through customs. This was an absolute nightmare. I would never, ever recommend Amtrak to a person with a disability. Shameful staff and service.
