I was able to get through to archives.com and to talk with an employee called Heather. I accepted the billing for a one-year membership at $39.95. (It was after a 7-day trial, not a 3-day trial, as I first reported, but that's still too short.) Nevertheless, I will watch out to be sure that she does not bill me again next year. As for the $39.33 billing to another vendor, I was mistaken. That was a separate transaction, and legitimate.
