I saw an ad for a position at a legitimate hotel (Homewood Suites) on craigslist. I applied for it and received a response from Charles Brickwell, beginning with "We would like to thank you for sending your resume to Newman Careers & Partners. After reviewing your initial credentials, I think you could possibly be a great fit for our company..."
I wasted an hour on the application questions before getting to the credit score check, which immediately raised a red flag. Sure enough, it proved to be a scam. Thankfully they have no information other than the initial resume I sent (which included my phone number, etc) but they have no important information like my SSN, birthdate, etc. So hopefully I'm okay.
This just came as a surprise to me because they used a legitimate hotel that I have been to before in person, so I didn't figure it was a scam. Oh well.
