I purchases an anti-virus software from Fry's Electronics. The usual story, Buy the item and get a refund equal to your purchase from the Company. In the past they would send you a check for the refund amount. Now McAfee as well as Norton are sending out Visa Debit cards. You are not aware of this until you go to their websites and find out that the refund will be by a debit card.
I was about to make a purchase, so I went to the McAfee rebate site, entered the number they require and find out that the monies were used up in maintenance fees at a monthly rate of $3 per month. The letter I received on 09/30/11 with the debit card did not mention any service charges, other than see the back of the card which mentions that a monthly service charge of $3 will be applied after 6months of receiving the card. I never looked at the back and had no need to use it until recently.
These companies play on the fact that you will not use the card for quite some time for other purchases.
IF THIS IS NOT A SCAM, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS.
A recent purchase from STAPLES has a GREAT approch to refunds. You go to their website and have the option to have the monies put into your PAYPAL account. Now that is customer satisfaction!!!!!
