I took a survey last July and to complete it had to claim certain offers. I chose a Walmart Gift Card. I took the minimum number of offers I could. One of them was a magazine offer. I ordered TV guide and a ladies magazine. Both under $15 a year. When I got to the end it told me it was timed out and the offer was no good. I thought I would go ahead and keep the magazines anyway. (BIG MISTAKE). About 2 weeks later someone called me and asked me how I was enjoying the magazines which I hadn't received yet. The rep said she could probably reduce the price for me if I was willing to agree to something,. which I forget what it was now. She could reduce the price from $59 a month to $39.90 a month. I said they had better not try to charge me that price for 2 cheap magazines. She proceeded to tell me I had ordered 4 magazines and agreed to the terms and didn't cancel within 3 days so it was binding and that they had already paid the publishing company the money so must collect from me. Also that if I closed my bank account they had ways of collecting anyway. This was to consist of paying $1,197 over 30 months and I would have these 4 magazines for 5 years.
As soon as the magazines started coming I cancelled them immediately. One was an Adult magazine I wouldn't have in my home, (but I wish I would have kept one for proof).
However they did send me a letter after the first call with 4 magazines listed that were:
Better Homes & Gardens, Readers Digest (which we already had), TV Guide and Good Housekeeping. TV guide is the only one that I had ordered in the list. Those were not the ones we got anyway.
They called me 2 more times and have suspended the charging but say it will stand and I will get charged.
I consulted an attorney and he gave me a law to read to them if any consequent problems arise. they have not called again lately.
